Jeanette’s 3 Peaks Challenge

One of the best things about running a small private fitness studio is that as a Personal Trainer I can help people who really need it. Over the last 17 years I’ve helped many clients reach personal goals and enjoy adventures. Over lockdown I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jeanette, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) a decade ago. We’ve been doing weekly studio sessions, and Skype webcam workouts too. Over the last two years I’ve seen Jeanette’s balance and strength improve, and now she’s tackling Three Peaks for a fundraiser.

“My name is Jeanette and I've had Relapse Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS) for 10 years. I was medically retired three years ago due to MS. Multiple Sclerosis has no cure and plays havoc on your body, mental health, and your life. I see myself as fortunate because I am still mobile and independent with the support of aids and support networks.

I recently tried the AlterG Anti-Gravity treadmill – it’s a treadmill with zero gravity that allows those with mobility issues walk and run again. Chris is my inspiration, he’s a 36 year-old husband and father who was diagnosed with MS six years ago. His condition deteriorated quickly and he uses a electric wheelchair to get about. I watched Chris walking on the treadmill for 30 seconds and it completely blew me away. He can normally only walk a couple of steps.

I’m embarking on an ambitious Alternative Three Peaks Challenge for people less fortunate than myself, to raise £40,000 to purchase an AltG Anti-Gravity Treadmill for Compass Centre, a charity that works with those who are managing neurological conditions in the Lothians and surrounding areas.

My Alternative Three Peaks Challenge consists of:

Arthurs Seat: 261 metres to summit, 10th August 2022. Completed today! See photo

Cairngorm Mountain: 7th highest mountain in UK. Elevation 1,245 metres. Scramble to the summit on 27th August 2022.

Lost Valley: Elevation 335 metres. Very steep, rugged and a lot of scrambling. One section you have to pull yourself up with a rope attached to the rock side. 8th October 2022.

These challenges are not going to be easy for me. But it needs to be done... The AlterG treadmill has such a positive impact on the lives of those managing neurological condition, most importantly on their mental health and wellbeing.”
